I spent a good 30 minutes this morning hogging wifi and using the textplus app on my iTouch to wish my friends back home a happy 2011; I wouldâve wished them in person â" except Iâm in India ? And that happens to be just a little too far away, haha. Following two flight cancellations, some in-flight meal confusion, a missed train, a last-minute bus ticket purchase, and some serious luggage-lifting, I made my way last week to a small rural area of India called Anaikatti. Since then, Iâve been here with my mom and grandma; itâs absolutely gorgeous: The beauty of this place is reason enough to be here â" but the actual purpose of my visit to Anaikatti is to work at one of the tribal hospitals in this region, assessing its needs and trying to figure out a way I can help. Itâs been an amazing experience so far. The doctors at the hospital are incredibly nice to me and patiently explain everything, regardless of how many questions I ask. Yesterday, I was given the chance to watch two deliveries! The first was a C-section: SO. COOL. The anesthesiologist in the operation theater walked me through every step of the procedure. Midway through his explanation, I passed out, lol. I have nooo idea why; according to the anesthesiologist, I curled myself up in the fetal position and had no pulse for a good 40-50 seconds. He said the likely cause of my fainting, given my general bravado in the O.T. and clear lack of discomfort around blood, was over-excitementâ¦Who the heck passes out because theyâre too excited? Gah, Iâm so weird -_-â Haha, my C-Section outfit Baby! Anywayy. The second delivery was a normal one, and â" despite the patients shrill screams and blood â" completely devoid of any fainting spells. Thank goodness: two in one day would just be embarrassing. Only 1.6 kg Things I learned yesterday: (1) Sometimes passing out is not preceded by little black dots dancing around. (2) Scrubs are ridiculously comfortable. (3) Anesthesia is godly. Yesterday, we asked the patient if she was okay during the operation, and she just said (in Tamil), âYeah, Iâm good. A little sleepy thoughâ â" no mention whatsoever of the gaping fissure across her abdomen. All because of a little shot. I was impressed. Aside from working at the hospital, Iâve also made a couple trips out of Anaikatti with a mobile medical van. Each time, we visit about five villages, some as far as 100 km away. At these various locales, we distribute medicines to patients; the medical van staff generally consists of one driver, one doctor, and two nurses. Each foray out to the villages is a tiring, full-day endeavor â" but itâs truly meaningful work. Without this medical van, many tribal individuals would not receive any medical care. Iâve seen patients with breast cancer, extreme malnutrition, and wounds that havenât healed in months. Itâs a humbling experience, seeing all of this. At every second, Iâm reminded of how lucky I am. Doctor Sivaraj, with a patient And thatâs part of the reason I want to give back to this community. Iâve been taking a lot of notes, and the notebook I brought with me to India is already half-full. For a rural-tribal hospital, this Anaikatti facility is fantastic, with a complete array of medical equipment: x-ray, ultrasound, blood testing, dental machinery, and even a telemedicine center. However, one of the biggest problems with both the hospital and medical van is the high doctor and nurse turnover. As such, the nurses are always âin trainingâ and not âtrained.â Based on everything Iâve observed, Iâve come up with a mini-training program to help develop some of the nursesâ skills, and Iâm hoping it has a visible impact on the quality of care administered at this hospital. Iâve had a lot of feedback and help from the doctors at the hospital to develop this idea â" and now, Iâll just have to see how it goes ? We can go on and on with the support so many universities across the United States have shown for LGBT students. So on this historic day that seemed but an impossible dream just a few short years ago, we tip our hats to universities that have led the charge for LGBT equality. Sometimes, you read about history in textbooks. And other times, you live it. Today, weve lived it. In the words of the conservative Supreme Court Justice who today cemented his legacy as one of the fiercest defenders of LGBT equality, Their hope is not to be condemnedà to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilizationââ¬â¢sà oldest institutions. Immediately after the child has attended their case hearings three types of standardized questionnaires were used to debrief the subjects for approximately 1 hour; Childrenââ¬â¢s Court Questionnaire, Demographic Information Form and State Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-C) (Block et al, 2010). The Childrenââ¬â¢s Court Questionnaire was the most detailed and was used to assess the subject on the four areas of interest; court knowledge, attitude, perception and general experience (Block et al, 2010). The Demographic Information file was used to collect data pertaining the legal case and it outcome while the STAI-C form was used to compare the subjectsââ¬â¢ level of anxiety (Block et al, 2010). On ce the interview was concluded the data was coded to enable the necessary statistical analysis to be performed. Results In summary the statistical analysis of the data collected indicated the following key findings. One, age was highly correlated with level of knowledge of the subject concerning the case proceedings; the highest score on level of knowledge occurred among the 12 year olds. Another association was identified between culture and attitude; overall the research study found that ââ¬Å"minority children held more positive attitudes than Caucasians toward dependency courtâ⬠(Block et al, 2010). The research study also identified an association between anxiety, age and ethnicity; the data analysis indicated that older subjects were generally more anxious than younger respondents while minority childrenââ¬â¢s were less anxious than their counterparts (Block et al, 2010). Position The results of the study concluded that increased access to legal information by the sub jects does not necessarily translate to increased level of knowledge; a theory that is supported by many other research studies on the subject. Based on the evidence from data analysis this research also indicates and recommends fostering of knowledge among children on how dependency court operates since it can benefit the minors in more than one way. Customer perceptual positioning map For this task, our group performed a sample survey, by preparing a questionnaire. A sample of a blank questionnaire can be viewed in Appendix 1. In this survey, we asked different people questions relating to our existing brand Gatorade, its competitor brands and energy drinks. After the survey we could derive the following conclusions. In the survey, it was asked, that which of the attributes play an important role in an energy drink. The attributes included: Effectiveness Taste Packaging Style/Trends Flavor options. The conclusion derived from this survey gave us the following result. Pie chart 1. From this research we concluded that EFFECTIVNESS and TASTE are the appropriate attributes that the consumer keeps in mind to judge the product and to compare the product with that of the competitors. For the positioning process, for our product, we chose 5 brands which are popular in the Indian market, and decided to position of product on the basis of comparison with the following five brands: Redbull Burn Bling Xenia Cloud 9 The sample population was asked to prioritize these brands on the scale of their preference considering the above mentioned five attributes. The results for the attributes TASTE and EFFECTIVENESS is shown in the following pie-charts.We made these pie charts on the basis of the ratings and then derived the percentage of preferred brand for these attributes. They were asked to rate the attributes on the scale of 1 5 in which 1-3 was considered low and 3-5 was considered high. From the perception mapping in the above graph and table we got to know the standing of each of our competitors in the market. Red Bull being high in taste and high in effectiveness becomes a tough competitor for Powergade as our product aims to give best of taste and prove to be quickly effective. The marketing mix is a combination of elements needed to successfully market any product. The marketing mix is at the heart of marketing planning. It is used to review and develop marketing strategy. These elements are commonly known as the Four Ps of marketing Product-Our main focus is that our product must be exceptional in taste and quickly effective. Since Gatorade has an experienced research team, we will be able to achieve our goal efficiently.
